Strange Coincidences

How often do you call a wrong number and reach someone with the same name as the person you intended to call, and then you guys talk until one of you figured out that the conversation is going nowhere?

I experienced that four times this week. Imagine that. I should buy 4D.

On the first occasion I punched in wrong numbers when I wanted to call an industry friend named Sharon. The person who picked up happened to be named Sharon too.

"Hey Sharon, you were supposed to get back to me on the stats. My deadline is looming. Can you send them over today?" I asked.

"Oh, I'm sorry. What stats are these again? I can check my records," she replied and I went on to describe what I needed until she stopped me mid-way and said she wasn't the Sharon I was looking for because she has no clue about whatever I was saying.

On the other three occasions I received calls looking for Karen. One told me he was keen to come for an interview for the job I had advertised. Another probably noticed that I do not sound like the Karen he knows and hung up after apologising.

The third burst out cheerfully, "Hey, so you are back?"

"Erm, yeah, I've been back for a long time already," I replied, thinking that he was one of my trade contacts who was referring to my business trip to Hanoi in January.

"Huh, I thought you recently went to Melbourne?" he returned.

"Ah no, I didn't go on that one," I said, thinking that he was referring to the annual trade show in Melbourne last month.

He paused for a while then said, "But you told me that you were going to Melbourne."

By then I suspected something was off and asked for his name. He turned out to be nobody I knew. Sheesh. We could have gone on and on.

Some coincidences, eh?
